i never know where these things should begin, so let's start at the beginning. i was born just outside of santa barbara, california, and grew up in an odd, artsy little town in arizona named bisbee. i spent part of the summers in ohio on my great-grandparents' farm, and mom and i eventually relocated to bowling green, ohio, when i was twelve. we packed it up and again moved to a little horse ranch near guthrie, oklahoma, just after my twentieth birthday, where we stayed until we both decided to move into to oklahoma city.
i now have a tiny little house in the historical area of oklahoma city, where i live with friends that include bettas, corn snakes, jumping spiders, and buddy the dog. the city of okc wasn't very fond of my banty chickens, but that's another story. and
even though i no longer have ponies of my own, i still work in the horse industry and get to be around other peoples' horses now and then.
other than the obvious, i fancy sea glass, lampwork, snowflakes, polaroids, saltwater, skeleton keys, insects, pet chickens, artichokes, antique typewriters, figs, cemeteries, naps, honeysuckle, absinthe, wings, ponies, seahorses, b12 shots, tintypes, driftwood, mustaches, jumping spiders, abandoned buildings, tea parties, pomegranates, copper, bicycles, bokeh, heirloom tomatoes, lens flares, traveling, peeling wallpaper, dill pickle sunflower seeds, anise, and oxford commas. i've always had what may be a slightly unhealthy draw to oceans, which may or may not be related to the fact that i have webbed toes. i'm also a fan of not using capital letters when i write. sorry, grammy.
i still want to be a mermaid when i grow up.
since i've run out of interesting things to say about myself for now, here are answers to some of the questions i get asked most often:
q: what kind of camera/equipment do you use?
a: i mostly use a canon 5d and an infrared canon 450d. my current lenses include canon 100mm 2.8 macro, canon 17-40L 2.8, canon 24-70L 2.8, canon 50mm 1.4, canon 85mm 1.8, helios 40-2, helios 44-2, jupiter 37a, jupiter 9, volna-9, and a shelf full of other old manual lenses. my love also lies in my holgaroid, two sx-70s, a polaroid 600se, about a dozen antique tlrs, and a handful of toy cameras.
q: is your name really haley luna? how did you get your name?
a: people ask about my name almost as much as they ask about my camera, so here's the dirty truth with a short history lesson: i was born haley carmen luna. when my dad's ancestors moved here from isle of mann in the late 1700s, one of two cousins named robert looney shortened his last name to luna to avoid confusion. i'm named after haley's comet because luna means moon and, well, my parents were hippies.
